European Car Insurance
Everyone looks forward to their holidays and many begin planning where to go as soon as Christmas is over. This is not surprising as holiday adverts start to appear on the television on Boxing Day. With so many different destinations reached by plane a lot of people will not need to take their car. They might take it to the airport and park it up for a week or so but will not need it while they are away. Some people will hire a car while abroad for a few days or choose to go by coach on excursions. However, millions of people travel to the Continent each year in their own cars and never give their car insurance a thought. They do not realise that their existing insurance will not offer the same level of cover in Europe. If you are taking your car to the Continent you will need to have a European car insurance policy. Without this your insurance could only cover for basic third party cover or basic road traffic accidents as your insurance might be downgraded while abroad. In countries such as Poland, Malta, Andorra and Romania you will need to have a green card. This green card is available from your insurer but will only provide the minimum level of cover while you are abroad. Without this green card your car will be impounded if you have an accident in a number of European countries. By contacting your Insurance Company it is possible to extend your level of cover for driving on the Continent but this usually involves paying an extra charge.
By shopping around you will be able to compare various quotes but be careful to read the small print to find out exactly what cover you are buying. Some European insurance does not provide cover for breakdown or legal protection while abroad. Be aware that usually any repairs and part replacements needed to be done while abroad will be more expensive than in the UK. Also some Insurance Companies will only cover for travel to certain European countries. Before making any decision make sure you are being offered car insurance that matches the level of car insurance you have in the UK. Hopefully, you will not need to make any claim and you will not be involved in any accident while driving abroad. Better to be safe than sorry by taking out a European car insurance policy before you travel but make sure it offers cover for all your needs.
Summary
Millions of people drive to the Continent each year without adequate insurance cover. They are unaware that their existing car insurance does not include the same level of cover in Europe as it does in the UK. They need to take out European car insurance that will match the same level of cover they have in the UK before they travel
