Do health insurance policies cover for accidents and emergencies?
There are so many things to think about when it comes to getting the right kind of health insurance, that sometimes we forget to ask the questions which are most important. Health insurance is a fantastic thing to have in place and offers peace of mind to the policy holder. Many people don’t even consider private health insurance necessary if they live within the United Kingdom as they already have access to a fantastically good National Health Service. Private health insurance does have its benefits without a doubt. It covers for many aspects of health including operations and diagnostic testing such as MRI and CT scanning. The waiting lists on the NHS for diagnostic testing such as MRI scanning which is perceived as being non urgent can be months. If you were to have an MRI scan done privately you could get it within 1-2 weeks of referral. However, if you are without health insurance this procedure for one area could cost in excess of £400. To give you some idea as to what is classed as an area – the lumbar spine would be classed as being one area, if you were to have thoracic spine, lumbar spine and cervical spine scanned then this would be usually classed as three areas and you would be required to be on the scanner for up to 1 ½ hours. So add up the cost of this procedure alone and your looking at a lot of money, which health insurance would cover.
Whilst most health insurers provide good deals on most medical care, most within the United Kingdom do not offer accident and emergency cover. However, having said that they usually will provide cover towards the cost of follow up treatment, providing that the follow up treatment is not for a pre-existing medical condition and it has been referred via a GP, specialist or consultant.
There are plenty of companies on the web who can offer the advice you need on medical insurance, so why not check out the internet for more information on health insurance and related products.
