Does Travel Insurance Cover against Missing a Flight?

A missed flight can be a pain, but would you be covered to get a refund on that miss flight by your travel insurance.  Well if the missed flight is because you got out of bed late, then it is unlikely that you will get your money back.  If it is due to a transport delay then you could get a refund on the flight, usually you will need to pay a small excess against your policy.  However, it is worth pointing out that some travel insurers do stipulate in your policy contract that you are not covered for any missed flights, which are due to delays on private and public transport.  If you are covered on your insurance for travel delays which have been caused by an accident, then the travel insurance company may ask you questions about the time of the accident and the time of the accident, as well as matching them against your flight time.  This is for the travel insurer to determine as to whether or not your delay was genuine or whether you were just late for another reason.

How would I find out exactly what I am insured for on my policy?

A good way to determine what you are covered for via your insurance is to read through the list of terms and conditions on your travel insurers website.  If you are due to holiday but have not yet set off, and find that you are not covered for all of your needs, it is worth contacting your insurer to see if you can add this on as an optional extra.

Millions of travellers from all over the world have been affected the volcanic ash cloud which swept across Europe earlier this year, and many of the travellers have queried as to whether or not they are due to be compensated for the event that happened.  As far as the flights were concerned at the time, the airlines were obliged to offer their passengers either a transfer on to another flight which is suitable for the passenger or offer the passenger a full refund.

The questions did arise as to whether or not passengers were covered via their insurance for the holiday hotels which had to be paid for as extra.  This depends entirely on the travel insurance company.  Some passenger who went on a package holiday got their accommodation provided by their tour operator.
