Is Sailing Covered by Travel Insurance Policies?

Sailing is usually split into two categories on a travel insurance policy.  Pleasure sailing and Ocean sailing.  Usually pleasure sailing is covered by some travel insurance companies, but only if you are intending to sail within territorial waters which are internationally recognised.  Ocean sailing within any international waters is not usually included nor is competitive sailing.  It is worth checking out your travel insurance documents to find out what your policy does include.

I am going on a cruise would this be classed as sailing for insurance purposes?

There are many travel insurance companies who offer cruise travel insurance, this will usually cover you for benefits such as:

•    Insurance cover for medical expenses.
•    Insurance cover for curtailment and cancellation
•    Plus you will benefit from medical emergency support 24 hours per day.
•    Insurance cover for personal money, personal effects, missed departure, hospital benefit and mugging benefit.

Where can I find good cruise insurance for a reasonable price?

There are many companies online which offer fantastic deals on travel insurance and related products.  You could choose to sift through the companies by yourself, or you could use a good price comparison sites to do the leg work on your behalf.

How does a price comparison site work?

You put in the information for the product which you are looking for and the price comparison website will do the rest.  For example:

•    You will be required to put in information about yourself ie. name, address, age, etc.
•    Type in the product which you are looking for.

The price comparison site will then come up with a list of companies who are offering the product mentioned and the price.  You can then choose from the list the company which is right for you and your needs.
